Reishi
Ganoderma lucidum
Overview
Reishi is the Japanese name of a mushroom that is also known by its Chinese name, lingzhi. It has been used medicinally in China, Japan and Korea for thousands of years.
Usage
Reishi is traditionally used to support and stimulate the immune system, especially in patients affected by chronic (long-term) health problems, such as chronic FATIGUE syndrome, auto-immune diseases (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis), and some forms of cancer. In these circumstances, it is best taken under the supervision of your healthcare professional. More frequently, reishi is used to help overcome chronic or recurrent infections, such as repeated episodes of colds, flu, bronchitis, or tonsillitis. For this purpose it is often taken in conjunction with other herbs regarded as immune system tonics, such as astragalus, echinacea and ligustrum. These remedies support IMMUNITY, aid recovery following illness, and help restore stamina. Together, they work by increasing the production and activity of key immune cells, and have antimicrobial properties against several viruses that cause colds, flu and other respiratory infections.
